Erase wrinkles, rejuvenate the look, reshape the volume of the face… Update on the techniques of aesthetic medicine, the range of which has widened in recent years.

Dermatologist or a specialized surgeon: which professional to choose?

From the forehead to the neck, many aesthetic techniques correct the first signs of aging from the age of 40, while others are often practiced later. These interventions can also be combined for a better result.

Dermatologist or a specialized surgeon: which professional to choose?

But before taking the plunge, it is important to choose the right practitioner who, depending on the technique, will be a dermatologist or a specialized surgeon. A detailed estimate must be presented for any intervention costing more than €300 or taking place under general anesthesia, together with a fifteen-day cooling-off period.

The practitioner must explain the expected result using drawings, photos or screen simulations. He also has an informed consent signed which specifies the procedures for the intervention and the possible risks.

The doctor sets his prices freely. It is therefore wise to compare two or three quotes, especially since these acts are not reimbursed.

Our advice with Doctor Vladimir Mitz, member of the French Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.

Botox to smooth the forehead

Used for more than twenty years in aesthetic medicine, injections of botulinum toxin (or botox) reduce the contraction of the muscles involved in the formation of wrinkles. They allow you to find a less worried expression by erasing the “lion’s wrinkles” between the eyebrows, those of the forehead and the crow’s feet around the eyes.

The practitioner injects very small amounts of toxin into the muscles using a very fine needle, without anesthesia or by applying an anesthetic gel.

A control, between fifteen and thirty days after the injection, makes it possible to make any alterations. Visible from four days, the results are optimal between ten and fifteen days later and last between four and six months. A duration that tends to increase with repeated treatments.

The price. From 300 to 600 € for treatment of “lion” wrinkles, forehead and crow’s feet.

The opinion of Dr. Mitz, surgeon: “This procedure, which replaced the forehead lift, is very effective and gives a truly natural result. »

Eyelid surgery to rejuvenate the look

Blepharoplasty corrects the eyelids by removing excess skin and pockets of fat. The impression of fatigue fades, the look is more rested.

The operation, on an outpatient basis, lasts an average of one hour, under local or light general anesthesia. It concerns the two upper or lower eyelids, or even the four eyelids.

You can return to work one to three weeks later.

The price. From €1,500 to €2,000 for two eyelids. Coverage by Medicare is possible when the field of vision is hampered by drooping eyelids.

The opinion of doctor Mitz, surgeon: “In the space of one to six months, the tissues have regained their flexibility and the scars have disappeared. The result then lasts about fifteen years. »

Fillers or fillers for bitterness creases

With age, the face becomes hollow. Appear wrinkles starting from the wings of the nose to the corner of the mouth, called nasolabial folds or “folds of bitterness”.

Cutaneous injections of an absorbable gel based on hyaluronic acid restore the volume of the cheeks and around the mouth. Depending on its consistency, the effect of the injection lasts between six months and two years.

The doctor uses an anesthetic product coupled with the gel in the syringe, or even a cream.

These injections are performed by a dermatologist or by a surgeon who sometimes combines them with a facelift.

You can also use lipofilling, a method of injecting fat cells taken from the belly or thighs. After two or three lipofillings, the effect lasts several years.

The price. From €300 to €500 for injections of hyaluronic acid-based gel; from €1,500 to €2,000 per session for lipofilling.

The opinion of doctor Mitz, surgeon: “For lipofilling, two or three operations are necessary, a few months apart, because not all the cells survive. »

The lipolift to refine the neck

More common in men, from the age of 40-45, this procedure removes excess fat in the jowls, neck and double chin.

Through small incisions, the surgeon introduces a thin cannula which takes off and sucks the fat, under local or light general anesthesia. You must then wear a compression bandage at night for at least fifteen days.

The hematomas fade in ten days. A medical follow-up is scheduled once a month for three months.
